The Robert Frost Trail

Just a snippet of the trail we took...

somehow, Joachim and I managed to traipse for three hours through a wilderness yesterday, without going more than 3 miles radius from our house! Such is the benefit of living right along the Robert Frost Trail.

The RFT runs from the Holyoke Range to Wendell State Forest, meandering through forests, farm fields, backyards, railways, and powerline rights of way for 47 miles. It's a perfect New England trail: just enough in the woods so you can feel truly in nature, but close enough that no mater which way you head, you're bound to hit some sort of civilization within a mile, that there's no fear of being lost.

We finally have snow on the ground! It's the perfect depth: no hindrance to walk through, but a lovely blanket making the forest seem so pristine and new.

Even though we've had such a cold stretch of days, and Leverett Pond is frozen over, it seems the brooks are still running. I love the sound of water running with ice, a kind of slippery klinking, if I had to describe it...

The woods are a magical place....
