Cracker Lake: July 13th

It's a 3-hour drive to the Many Glacier Valley, but the hiking there is WELL worth the time! It's definitely my favorite valley in the park, with amazing views, amazing hikes, amazing wildlife, everywhere you turn! Here we are, heading into the valley in the morning, for an awesome day of hiking to Cracker Lake.
The trail as we approach Cracker Lake... the lake is at the base of those cliffs~ We can see the basin almost the entire hike, but the lake is tucked way below, so we can't see it until the very end! The anticipation kills!
And then finally, coming up over a grassy knoll, we get the first view: stunning turquoise water!
I'm trying to show how the water color matches my eye color, but the shadows prevent it~~

Then we had heard about an old copper mine up in the cliffs above the lake... so we set out to find it. Here, we come up over a scree field, and find this nice big hole in the rock face: bingo! My friends all had their headlamps ready... so we went it. We had been told by other rangers that it was safe!
Here I am in the cave! It was just tall enough for me to stand up!

And here we are at the end of the cave... It curved around for about 400 meters, so it was TOTALLY dark  back there~ Lucky for us we had headlamps and a nice camera flash!
On the way out we saw a cute marmot! :)
And this was our sunset view on the way home!!
